Available Summer Positions

Counselor

Step into a role where you’ll lead, connect, and grow with a new group of campers each week. As a cabin counselor, you’ll take part in fun activities, embrace adventure, and share the Gospel with kids on a daily basis.

Lifeguard

Dive into an unforgettable summer and play a crucial role on our Recreation Team as a lifeguard. You’ll be in charge of ensuring the safety and fun of our campers during a variety of water activities in our beautiful lake, pool, and boating areas. Don’t worry if you’re not certified; we’ll provide Lifeguard Certification training. This position is a full summer commitment.

Activities Team

Join our versatile activities team and assist with a range of activities based on your interests and expertise. You may find yourself leading as a Range Officer at our shooting range, overseeing Paintball, sparking creativity in Arts and Crafts, or contributing to various camp activities. No prior experience is necessary; we provide all the training you need. This position requires a full summer commitment.

Boxwoods Program Team

Join our dynamic Boxwoods Team where you’ll collaborate to plan and deliver top-notch activities and programs for all guests and campers at our Lake Livingston property. In addition to ensuring a smooth flow of recreational offerings, team members will handle tasks such as logistics, setup, and working closely with group leaders to execute events and programs seamlessly. Your role also includes contributing to guest service, facilitating recreation activities, handling tasks like trash removal, meal service, retail support, and maintaining our facilities. This position covers the entire summer season, from May through August.

Carolina Creek

Be part of the energetic Carolina Creek Team, where you’ll work alongside others to create and deliver outstanding programs and activities for campers and guests across our Carolina Creek property. Beyond coordinating recreational experiences, team members take on responsibilities like organizing logistics, setting up spaces, and partnering with group leaders to ensure events run smoothly. This role involves supporting guest services, leading recreation activities, assisting with tasks such as trash pickup, meal service, and retail operations, as well as maintaining our facilities. The]is position covers the full summer season, from May through August.

Crew

Get your hands dirty and learn how to serve camp behind the scenes. This position is reserved for campers entering 12th grade as a first staff experience at Cho-Yeh. For two weeks you will serve in countless ways while learning how to apply the Gospel to your life and what it takes to build a strong community of believers.

Leaders In Training

Learn what it takes to be a counselor at Cho-Yeh! A two-week position for graduating seniors that gives you hands-on experience as a cabin counselor. Get the chance to grow and be challenged, while also making an impact on our camper’s lives!

Learn How To Apply
Elevate our campers’ experiences and become part of the Recreation Team as a Challenge Course Technician. You’ll receive comprehensive training on thrilling activities such as the Giant Swing, High Ropes Adventure Park, Zipline, and more. Spend your summer guiding campers to conquer their fears and reach new heights in a safe and supportive environment. No prior experience is necessary; we’ll provide the training you need. This position requires a full commitment for the summer.

Take the helm and lead watercraft activities for both Summer Camp and Boxwoods campers at Lake Livingston. Your responsibilities will encompass overseeing activities like tubing, banana boating, and boat rides. As a boat driver, your priority is to ensure a safe and enjoyable boating experience for our guests, all while assisting with guest service, organizing recreation activities, meal service, retail, and facility upkeep. This position spans the full summer season, from May through August and includes comprehensive boat driving training.

Imagine a summer filled with Camp merchandise and delicious Blue Bell ice cream. In the Trading Post, you’ll be involved in inventory management, setting up attractive displays, assisting campers and parents with their selections, and serving delectable snacks. If you’re seeking hands-on experience in retail or business, this is the perfect opportunity. You can choose to commit to this role for either the full or half of the summer.
Join our Media Team for a summer of capturing cherished memories that campers will treasure for a lifetime. As a photographer, you’ll be the lens behind daily snapshots of our campers, offering parents a glimpse into their children’s camp experiences. Beyond that, you’ll play a pivotal role in our marketing efforts, helping us narrate Camp Cho-Yeh’s story through captivating photos all year round. This position requires a full summer commitment.
Join our Media Team and become the visual storyteller of the Cho-Yeh experience! As a videographer, you’ll capture the memorable moments and daily highlights, showcasing the joy and adventure that defines our camp. Your skills in capturing and editing video will transform raw footage into engaging content for social media, marketing, and keepsakes that campers and parents will cherish.

Create compelling and engaging content for Camp Cho-Yeh’s blog, website, social media and other promotional content. Great for journalism, communication, marketing, or public relationships majors.

Join our dedicated health center team, collaborating with certified nurses around the clock to ensure the well-being and hydration of our campers and staff. Your responsibilities will include assisting with medication distribution, providing first aid, and maintaining a safe and healthy environment throughout the week. This role is an ideal opportunity for those aspiring to pursue a career in nursing or the medical field. This position requires a full summer commitment.

Join us as an Office Assistant and play a crucial role in maintaining our camp’s organization, bridging the gap between home and camp. This detail-oriented position is an excellent opportunity for anyone seeking valuable business or office experience. Your work will ensure that everything is in place for our campers before they arrive, allowing them to simply show up and dive into an unforgettable summer adventure. Staff Training

All Staff will be asked to be available for the duration of staff training, with the exception of Work Crew and Junior Counselors, who will be trained on the first day of their term.

TRAINING DATES:

Arrive May 9
Leadership, Health Aides, Office Assistants, Photographers, Videographers, Content Creator

Arrive May 12 for Recreation Training
Lifeguards, Challenge Course Technicians, Activities Team, Boat Drivers, and Summer Retreats Teams

Arrive May 14
Counselors, Band and Trading Post

Training goes through May 22 for all staff.

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT:

Many of our positions can be flexible in which dates are worked, especially counselor positions. We typically ask that staff work a minimum of 5 weeks, plus staff training. See position descriptions for more information on which positions require all summer.

Summer Camp

(Lifers receive at least one week off during the summer)

There’s also an opportunity to receive a significant scholarship just for working at camp. Time Off

We believe in the importance of rest and rejuvenation for our staff, so, yes, you get off-time!

WEEKEND OFF-TIMES

All our staff will get from Saturday afternoon to Sunday morning. You will have time to do your laundry, eat a good meal or visit Houston, which is only about an hour away.

WEEKLY OFF-TIMES

Most staff have around 10 hours off throughout the week. They may be a combination of morning, afternoon and evening off times. This is the perfect amount of time to recharge and feel energized to get back to your campers and finish the week strong.

Meals & Housing

All meals and housing are provided with the summer staff salary.

Scholarships & Internships

We want our staff to succeed in their future, so we are passionate about helping them do so. We have a summer staff scholarship that any staff member who works a minimum of 5 weeks at Cho-Yeh can apply for in order to help with tuition expenses. Applications are open now and due April 15th. Working at camp provides great opportunities for professional skill development that will help prepare you for your future career, parenthood, & marriage! As a staff member, you’ll be supervising, coaching, mentoring, and leading others. You’ll learn project management skills, conflict resolution, communication, and administration of details. These leadership development opportunities have been proven to stand out on a resume and impress future employers. Spiritual growth will occur through personal time spent with God, staff Bible study, and devotion times with fellow staff members in a community much like the early church in Acts 2.

Cho-Yeh hosts boys and girls, ages 6 – 16, mostly coming from the greater Houston area, but with large numbers also living in East and Central Texas. A handful of our campers also come from the North Texas/Dallas area, as well as from other states and nations.

Cho-Yeh provides campers with a variety of opportunities to challenge them by trying new things while having a lot of fun too. As a staff member, you will be working alongside your peers to ensure that the campers have the best time possible during their stay at camp. Our schedule varies based on the day of the week, but here is an overview of what your camper can expect on a typical day at camp.

Bible study is an important time each day, and you will have the opportunity to see campers be challenged to grow in their faith. As a counselor, you will help lead Bible study and nightly devotionals for your campers within your cabin. Counselors focus on building relationships with campers just as Christ built relationships with people during His ministry. At Cho-Yeh, we are confident that God works in His time to reach people with His good news; therefore, it is our goal to love campers and live our lives in a way that exemplifies Jesus Christ and what it means to have a personal relationship with Him. It is not our goal to convert every camper by the end of the week but challenge them to grow in their relationships with Jesus Christ.

Approximately 10 hours each week will be given to staff while camp is in session. Most staff will have an evening off time and two afternoon off times each week, but some will have one evening and one morning each week. Between sessions, staff will have approximately 22 hours off, which begins on Saturday around 12:30pm and ends the following Sunday around 10:30am.
Our counselors are what make Cho-Yeh such an incredible place! As a counselor you have the opportunity to minister to the 8-15 campers in your cabin through teaching bible studies, leading activities, and sharing experiences at Camp. You and your co-counselor will have campers you get to encourage and point to Christ more each day through cultivating their faith, nurturing community, and forging character. We use the staff training weeks as an opportunity to equip you to lead your campers well during your time at Camp.
Staff Training consists of 10 days that equips summer staff with the tools and knowledge you will need to take on a summer at camp. You will be immersed in the community that you will work alongside and develop a better understanding of how camp runs successfully. Training sessions include camper Bible study prep, understanding camp activities, abuse prevention, and much more.
