Packing Tips & Tricks (+ What Theme Nights To Pack For)

As we gear up for another exciting summer at Camp Cho-Yeh, here are some essential packing tips that will help prepare your camper for an incredibly exciting and adventure-packed week (or two)!

🔍 And keep reading to the end to find out what Summer 2025’s theme nights are!

Trunks, Suitcases, Bags, Oh My!

When it comes to packing for Camp, the right trunk or bag can make all the difference. If you are able, we recommend investing in a hard plastic trunk like the Plano Storage Lockers from Academy. These are durable, affordable (around $30), and come in a variety of colors. Consider adding stickers, vinyl lettering, and/or paint to the trunk to personalize it for your camper and bring their personality into the cabin!

However, trunks are not necessary, and large duffle bags or suitcases work just as well. Just make sure the height does not exceed 16 inches so that it can easily slide under the bunks.

🪵 We suggest staying away from traditional large, wooden trunks since they are expensive, heavy, and too big to fit under bunks.

The Everyday Essentials

Check out our recommended packing list and refer back to your Parent Info Sheet that was previously emailed to you for a complete breakdown of what your camper needs. But here’s a quick look at some Camp-must haves:

  • Durable Water Bottle 🚰
  • Bible, Journal, and Pens 📝
  • Hat and Sunglasses 🕶️
  • Sunscreen and Bug Spray ☀️
  • Draw-String or Small Backpack 🎒
  • Flashlight or Headlamp 🔦
  • Bunk Decor 🎉
  • Pool Towel 🏊

As you pack, think about the sun, water, activity, and comfort to help your camper feel ready for the day’s adventures – whether it’s rope-swinging, mountain biking, or just laughing with friends in the Dining Hall.

📌 Be sure to look at the “What Not to Pack” section of the packing list before you snap your trunk closed (or zip those bags)!

.

Zip(loc) It!

For hassle-free mornings – and to ensure your camper does not willingly wear the same outfit for 3 days in a row – pack each day’s outfit (socks and underwear included!) in a gallon-sized Ziploc bag and label it with the day of the week. This helps campers, especially younger ones, get ready quickly without digging through their whole trunk. Older ones also appreciate this extra packing step to savor those few extra minutes of sleep in the morning.

Pro Tip: Toss in one or two extra bags (or trash bags – seriously) for wet towels or dirty clothes to keep the dry stuff dry and everything else smelling fresh.

Labels – The Real MVP

It may sound dramatic but labeling everything is a gamechanger for all ages. With all the outfit changes, daily cabin cleanups, and quick activity turnarounds, it’s very easy for things to go missing. These no-iron fabric labels work really well and even a simple sharpie does the trick. From shoes and t-shirts to water bottles and toothbrushes – putting initials or last name on clothing tags, inside backpacks, and inside shoes will save you a trip to the Lost and Found!
